Out in the wild for our first showcase.
It's been an exhausting but glorious few days for us as we were graciously hosted by Inition as part of their two-day VR show case, an event put on for London Tech Week.
For our inaugural demonstration we were showing off the prototype stage of our presenter portion of the experience as well as some of the basics of our production system. Though it's still early days for us and the prototype is still fairly primitive it allowed us to articulate the concept of Podrift clearly and it's one that excited a lot of people; for the majority that tried it, it was their first experience in telepresence.
Feedback was great and those in the experience rarely failed to crack a wondrous smile or a playful giggle; all while being able to stand up and move around a small area.
We saw a lot of VR handshakes, some hi-fives and even a VR hug; perhaps the first hug in telepresence? Who knows, we'd like to hope so! The phrase we heard most though throughout was "those aren't my shoes!" as they look down and realised it wasn't just their arms but their full body we were tracking.
The calm before the storm, the guys at Inition helping to test during setup.
Thank you everyone!
A special thanks to Inition for inviting us down; their staff were fantastic people who helped us out greatly on all fronts and really made us feel welcome from start to finish.
All our co-exhibitors were great people too, we got a chance to try out Sensic's commercial HMDs; play with Dekka Tech's haptics in their gun demo; and experience atmospheric potential for VR with the SubPac.
We'd like to thank everyone who came to give it a try; we got some great feedback but more importantly your reactions are something that spur us on greatly as we continue to develop the Podrift platform. We can't wait to put the system in your hands.
